On Saturday 19th October 2024, Hemswell Court hosted its first murder mystery evening, which turned out to be a great success (an added bonus none of our staff was the victim!)
Guests where presented with evidence from the detective on the case, both verbally and written clues where given and they had to work out who had killed the two guests at the school reunion, one a student and one a teacher.
Stirling Murder was the company who provided the entertainment and Hemswell Court provided a three course meal with coffee. Some of the guests stayed overnight and enjoyed our continental and cooked breakfast the following morning.
There has been lots of lovely positive comments received with many guests asking if we can arrange another event soon.
We are super proud and excited to announce that we have once again been awarded breakfast, dinner and accommodation awards from the AA.
The standard for receiving these awards is very high and we have an unannounced visit from the AA inspector yearly.
We are so grateful for our staffs’ hard work and support in helping us achieve these awards each year, whether office or garden based, working in the kitchen, housekeeping or being part of the front house team, so a big thank you to all our staff who play their part in making Hemswell Court what it is today.
Wow what an extremely busy but fantastic 3 weeks we have had recently celebrating the end of an era for many local students. Their school proms and balls started on 20th June 2024 and ended on 12th July 2024. We had 11 different schools this year, some new and some returning.
A lot of hard work and organising goes into these events, so a big thank you to the students for their ideas and the teachers and heads of schools for allowing the proms to take place here and for their help in the organisation.
To all our staff, well done and thank you for your extra support and help whilst also attending to other events, our residents for being patient with delays in returning home and our security guys for helping direct traffic and keeping us all safe.
During this time, we have seen many different types of transport from fire engines, sporty cars, horses, tractors, lorry cabs, horse and cart, limos to name a few, lots of smart suits and lots of beautiful prom dresses and stunning outfits.
The students all behaved very well and enjoyed themselves and feedback from all schools has been incredibly positive which makes our job worthwhile.
Thank you to the suppliers who have been a great asset to the proms –
We are thrilled to announce that Hemswell Court receives three 5* AA awards for another year. This will be the twelfth year which we have achieved the breakfast, dinner and accommodation awards.
Our staff work so hard to continue to provide excellent service and ensure our guests have an enjoyable experience. These awards recognise our teams dedication and the standards we set.
A big thank you to all our staff for their continued support and commitment and to our guest old and new who visit.
At Hemswell Court we celebrated Valentine’s Day in style.
Guests enjoyed a three course meal finished with coffee and chocolates. Their tables were decorated with a scattering of rose petals, love hearts and a single red rose. Log fires and candles completed the ambiance.
Memories were made and shared by the couples who attended, some also taking advantage of the opportunity to stay with us and enjoy our fantastic breakfast the following morning.
A big thank you to our past brides and grooms, first time visitors and couples who will marry later this year. Making special memories is what we love to do!
A very big thank you to a number of our staff who have kindly donated toys and gifts to Mission Christmas this year. Their generosity has been overwhelming and we are very proud to be able to donate to this very worthy charity.
Today we took our gifts to Uncle Henry’s and were met by Karen and Katie who were very grateful to receive our donations on behalf of the charity. This charity has been going a number of years helping support local families.
No child should wake on Christmas morning to no presents and as most of us here at Hemswell Court are parents it made it easier to decide which charity to support this year.
Donations can be given or dropped off at Uncle Henry’s until 18th December 2023 so please if you are able to help visit them soon.
Last year Marie Curie fundraising committee approached us to ask if they could hold their annual Christmas Bazaar here at Hemswell Court. Not having held this event before we were both excited and honoured to be asked as the Marie Curie nurses mean a lot to so many of the staff and our previous owners who were nursed and supported by this wonderful charity.
Plans were made and invites sent to local craft and gift suppliers and very quickly all the spaces were booked. Although some were a little worried about the new venue and location so much positive feedback has been received on our staff, organisation and venue which we really appreciated.
There were various handmade items, Christmas decorations, gifts and craft stalls which were set up in our ballroom and primrose rooms and Marie Curie staff and volunteers proudly stood in the grand entrance hall with tombola, cakes, merchandise and gift bags to purchase.
Tea, coffee and homemade cakes from our kitchens were on sale in our private drawing room and a lovely memory tree for guests to write messages to loved ones. We had pride of place at the top of the tree for our message to Rex and Nepi (our previous owners).
As with any event, there is a lot to consider and organise and we are extremely proud to announce that £10561.60 was raised, so a very big well done to all involved in this. What a remarkable achievement this equates to 459 hours nursing care.
So many wonderful comments have been received on our hardworking staff during the event which makes us as a company very proud of each and everyone. We are delighted to have been part of this event and look forward to working with everyone again next year.
On the 4th September this year, Hemswell Court was delighted to welcome members from The Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club to celebrate their post-war six cylinder rally.
Our guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and comfortable accommodation which Hemswell Court offers and delicious food specially prepared by our chefs, all of which received lovely comments on their departure.
The cars were stunning and sat beautifully on our landscaped gardens. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them. Thank you to everyone for coming and we look forward to welcoming you all again.
*The organiser has sent a couple of extra photos and an itinerary of their visit which I am pleased to add –
“Twenty two cars attended the annual rally of the PWSC Register of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club which was held at Hemswell Court over five days in early September. The Register caters for Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars built between 1945 to 1955. The earliest car attending the meet was a 1949 drop-head coupe by Park-Ward. They were joined by several models from other registers, the latest being a 1995 Bentley Continental R two door coupe by Mulliner and a guest from the Aston Martin Club. Members attended from all over the UK some having travelled over 180 miles. A coach trip into Lincoln with visits to the Castle and Cathedral proved to be very popular. Drive outs on the following days saw visits to places of historical interest but the most popular were those associated with Lincolnshire’s wartime past. For most the highlight of the tours was to the East Kirby Heritage Aviation Museum where they were treated to the sight of the Lancaster ‘Just Jane’ being fired up and taxiing. Thereafter the group and its cars were photographed with the aircraft as a backdrop. The visit to the International Bomber Command Centre at Canwick was also thought to be excellent. The ‘Iron Men’ memorial to those air crew of the Dambusters raids who did not return was particularly moving. Without exception, members agreed that this years venue was among the best we have ever had. The overall experience was exceptional, delivered by well lead, enthusiastic members of staff. One member commented that ‘we arrived as guests but left as friends.”
During the past few weeks, we have hosted 9 local school proms. Many are returning schools with a couple of new ones who through recommendations decided to use our venue and are now returning next year also. The weather was fine for most evenings but even the rain did not dampen the spirits of the students and their family and friends who came to watch them arrive.
All of the students were very well behaved, polite and courteous a credit to the schools and their parents.
We had various forms of transport including limos, sports cars, horse and carriage, fire engine, lorry cabins, sports cars and tractors.
Our most unusual was a student arriving in a shopping trolley and one who arrived in his custom built car.
The girls looked stunning in their prom dresses and the boys rather dapper in their suits.
There was a firework display one evening and karaoke on another along with balloons, sweetie carts, discos, photo booths and prom letters.
Reception drinks and food was enjoyed by all, from buffets, bbq’s or a sit down 2 or 3 course meals with ice cream cones on offer also.
Good luck to all the students from the following schools and thank you for your continued support.
On 16th May 2023, we hosted a celebration evening for the Dambusters 80th Anniversary. The evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all our guests who attended.
Emily Martin Music played the clarinet and saxophone whilst our guests enjoyed a reception drink of prosecco or sparkling elderflower followed by a 40’s inspired afternoon tea freshly prepared by our talented kitchen staff. They even managed to add jam tarts and potted beef to the menu remembering the 40’s.
One of our guests Eric Jarvis showed memorabilia on the evening and shared his vast knowledge with the guests.
Our very talented photographer Jonathan Mank; PM Photography was on hand to shoot photos of the evening who kindly gave us all photos which we will share, hopefully raising money for RAF Benevolent Fund. Some of our guests dressed up for the occasion with one couple dressing in 40’s dress.
The highlight of the evening was a flypast of the Lancaster, we were very worried about the weather but it held off just in time for the wonderful noise and sight above.
Some of our guests stayed over to enjoy the comfort of our 5* accommodation and breakfast the following morning.
We have received many positive and kind comments from all those who attended for which we are very grateful.
